Success Story

Program Management and Risk Reduction for a Complex ERP Program

Strengthening a Complex ERP Transformation

Seaspan, a leading marine and manufacturing enterprise, was undertaking a major ERP, SCM and HCM transformation to move from JD Edwards and IFS to Oracle Fusion Financials. Like many organizations embarking on a large-scale ERP program, Seaspan faced a critical challenge: while the transformation was important to the future of the business, it did not have enough internal capacity or specialized Oracle program experience to effectively manage the complexity of the initiative and the technical workstreams that came with it.

Supporting the Program Beyond Implementation

While another partner was responsible for the core Oracle Fusion implementation, R-Cubed was brought in to help de-risk and strengthen the overall program. R-Cubed provided experienced PMO leadership and solution architecture support to help manage the project with greater discipline, structure, and cross-functional coordination. This included supporting key workstreams tied to project governance, reporting, analytics, enterprise data warehouse considerations, interfaces, data conversion, and overall solution alignment across both Oracle and non-Oracle environments.

R-Cubed’s role was not simply to add resources, but to provide experienced leadership in the areas where complex ERP programs often face the greatest pressure. By augmenting both the project team and internal IT organization with seasoned Oracle ERP expertise, R-Cubed helped the company reduce delivery risk, strengthen decision-making, and bring greater control to a high-stakes transformation. Just as importantly, R-Cubed supported stronger training, knowledge transfer, and employee readiness so the organization would be better prepared to sustain the new environment after go-live.

Reducing Risk and Driving Better Outcomes

The impact was significant. Through more proactive management of project risks across PMO, interfaces, data conversion, reporting, and solution design, the company was better positioned for a successful transformation. The program also delivered at least $3 million in cost avoidance while improving the organization’s ability to operate with greater rigor and efficiency.

By helping manage complexity and reinforce execution around the implementation, R-Cubed played an important role in positioning Seaspan for long-term operational excellence. The transformation gave the organization a stronger financial platform, reduced technology and delivery risk, and created a more stable foundation to support future growth and innovation.
